ABOUT CHIASSO
CHIASSO is the creative space of Matteo Gerbi, a place for architectural thinking and making, where ideas are explored beyond the routines of daily professional practice. Matteo is a Chartered Architect with nearly twenty years of experience working across scales, from major infrastructure and industrial projects to houses, installations, and furniture.
CHIASSO functions as a laboratory of ideas. Here, drawings, objects, spatial concepts, and architectural visions are sketched, tested, and shared. Some works are complete; others remain open, still finding their form. This openness is intentional and reflects a belief in design as an evolving process rather than a fixed outcome.
Working across scales has always been central to the practice, from furniture to buildings, and this hands‑on instinct continues to shape how projects are conceived today, with attention to making, materials, and use.
There is no belief in a fixed strategy or a permanent way of working. Each project is different, shaped by its own context, time, and circumstances. The moment in which a project is conceived matters: ideas change, questions shift, and experience accumulates. It is natural that a project designed today would not be the same if revisited ten years later. Evolution is not a weakness of the process; it is its condition.
The approach is deliberately quiet. There is no interest in performing visibility or constructing a persona around the work. The focus remains on the project itself, on intention, care, and clarity, allowing ideas, drawings, and spaces to speak without unnecessary noise.
Architecture does not need a loud author.
It needs attention, responsibility, and time.
Let the work speak.
